Clockwise Moment (due to 400 g at 0 cm)
Moment = 400 × (10 − 0) = 400 × 10 = 4000 g
Anticlockwise Moment (due to weight of scale at 50 cm)
Moment = M × (50 − 10) = M × 40
M × 40 = 4000 ⇒ M = `4000/40`
= 100g
