उत्तर

If the distance between the two objects is doubled, then

F'' = `(Gm_1m_2)/(2R^2)`

= `1/4 xx (Gm_1m_2)/(R^2)`

= `1/4` F

= `F/4`

Thus, the gravitational force between the two objects becomes one-fourth.

If the distance between the two objects is tripled, then

F′′′ = `(Gm_1m_2)/(3R)^2`

= `1/9 xx (Gm_1m_2)/R^2`

= `1/9 xx F`

= `F/9`

Thus, the gravitational force between the two objects becomes one-ninth.

Consider a planet moving in an elliptical orbit round the sun. The work done on the planet by the gravitational force of the sun
(a) is zero in any small part of the orbit
(b) is zero in some parts of the orbit
(c) is zero in one complete revolution
(d) is zero in no part of the motion.

Which of the following quantities remain constant in a planetary motion (consider elliptical orbits) as seen from the sun?
