Kaas Plateau - The Flower Valley of Maharashtra

  1. How to reach there:
Kaas Plateau is situated 25 kms from the city of Satara. Multiple buses go to Satara from various cities in Maharashtra. From Satara Bus stand there are many State Transport buses that take visitors to Kaas Plateau.
  2. Accommodation facilities:
Around 3 kms from Kaas Plateau is the Kaas village. There are numerous accommodation options available there. The main attraction of these accommodations is the food cooked using local ingredients on a chulha!
  3. Attractions of the place:
Kaas Plateau is also called as the ‘valley of flowers’ of Maharashtra. It is famous across the world due to the wild flowers that grow there for a short period of time and lay a colourful carpet on the ground. It is indeed a sight to behold. Apart from the numerous varieties of wild flowers (some of which are common to Kaas Plateau only) this biodiversity site is also a home to many animals, insects and beautiful birds.
  4. Best time to visit:
The best time to visit Kaas Plateau is right after the monsoons, that is, in September and October, while the flowers are in full bloom. The blooming of flowers takes place in presence of the sunshine that falls after a week or two once the rain stops.
  5. Shopping attractions:
There are no shopping attractions at Kaas Plateau. However, one can buy kandi pedhe, a well-known sweet, from the nearby Satara city.
  6. Places of interest nearby:
Just beyond the Kaas plateau is the beautiful Kaas Lake. Surrounded by mountains and hills on all sides, this lake is one of the most lovely places around. A few steps away from the Kaas village, there is a mud-road that goes to the Vajrai Waterfall. The panoramic view of the valley, the waterfall, and the low floating clouds there create a magical experience.
