- Simple: Brand name should be short, simple, easy to pronounce, spell and remember. Long and complex words should be avoided because they create difficulty in reading and remembering. For instance, Surf, Nirma, Lux, Videocon, HP Computers, Speed Petrol.
- Suggest about product: A brand name should suggest about a product's benefits, its quality, performance durability etc. for example, Ujjala suggests brightness, Hajmola suggests digestive properties, etc.
- Stable: A brand name should have a long life and be unaffected by time in order to gain popularity.
- Registration: It should be capable to registration and legal protection.
- Distinctive: A brand name should be unique, attractive and distinctive. A brand name is distinctive when it is different from others in the category.
