The Poona Diocesan Educational Society
Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce was started in 1983 by the Pune Diocese. The Poona Diocesan Educational Society is a Christian Minority Trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, under Certificate E/449 dated 25-08-1970.
The Pune Diocese consists of the civil districts of Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur.
Since its inception, the Society has been active in the field of education. It has fourteen schools, two Junior colleges and one Senior college.
This effort, though particularly responsible towards the Christian community, has served the entire society. Students of our Institutions belong to every social class, community and linguistic group. They aim at making their own contribution towards the transformation of the present day social conditions, so that the principles of social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom, respect for religious and moral values, enshrined in the Constitution of India may prevail, and the possibility of living a fully human existence may be open to all.
Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce was set up primarily to offer an opportunity to working youth who wish to pursue their higher studies while continuing to work. It was started initially as a degree college to which later were added the post graduate sections. Over the years Vidya Bhavan College has emerged as a centre of excellence in the field of commerce education. This has been made possible thanks to the commitment and consistent efforts of the management, faculty and non-teaching staff.
