  1. The Indian Constitution empowers women by guaranteeing them equal status and political rights. Twenty-two women were elected to the Lok Sabha in 1951-52. Their number rose to 66 in the 2014 elections.
  2. In Maharashtra and several other states, local self-governing institutions now have a 50% reservation.
  3.  If the number of women representatives in Lok Sabha increases, it will assist to reduce violence against women and improve their participation in decision-making.
