Why are accumulated profits and losses distributed amongst the old partners before a new partner is admitted?

Solution

If there are any accumulated profits or losses listed in the balance sheet at the time of admission, they must be transferred to the old partners’ Capital Accounts in their previous profit-sharing ratio. The new partner should not be allocated any of these profits or losses, as they were incurred before his admission.
