Solution
At high altitudes to the atmosphere consists of a layer of ozone (O3) which acts as an umbrella or shield for harmful UV radiations. It protects us from harmful effects such as skin cancer. UV radiation can convert molecular oxygen into ozone as shown in the following reaction.
\[\ce{O2(g) ->[uv] O(g) + O(g)}\]
\[\ce{O(g) + O2(g) ->[uv] O3(g)}\]

What are the reactions involved for ozone layer depletion in the stratosphere?
Ozone depletion will cause ______.
Assertion (A): Oxygen plays a key role in the troposphere.
Reason (R): Troposphere is not responsible for all biological activities.

Which of the following statements is correct?
Ozone is a toxic gas and is a strong oxidising agent even then its presence in the stratosphere is very important. Explain what would happen if ozone from this region is completely removed?

How is ozone produced in stratosphere?
Ozone is a gas heavier than air. Why does ozone layer not settle down near the earth?
Assertion (A): Ozone is destroyed by solar radiation in upper stratosphere.
Reason (R): Thinning of the ozone layer allows excessive UV radiations to reach the surface of earth.
