Solution

Property  Colloidal solution Emulsion
Definition  A colloidal solution is a heterogeneous system in which the dispersed phase is finely divided and uniformly distributed in a dispersion medium. An emulsion is a type of colloidal system in which both the dispersed phase and dispersion medium are liquids.
Phase types The dispersed phase and dispersion medium can be solid, liquid, or gas. Both phases are liquids that are immiscible or partially miscible.
Examples Starch sol, gold sol, and sulphur sol. Milk (liquid fat in water) and butter (water in fat).
Stability Colloidal solutions are generally more stable and may not need emulsifying agents. Emulsions are less stable and often require emulsifying agents for stability.
