Lord Ripon, during his Viceroyalty, introduced the Ilbert Bill (1883). This bill aimed to give Indian Judges and Magistrates the authority to try cases involving European offenders. His objective was to remove the racial discrimination that existed in the judicial system, where Indian judges were previously not allowed to judge Europeans.
