Question
The given table shows the freezing points in °F of different gases at sea level. Convert each of these into °C to the nearest integral value using the relation and complete the table,
`C = 5/9 (F - 32)`
| Gas | Freezing Point at Sea Level (°F) |
Freezing Point at Sea Level (°C) |
| Hydrogen | –435 | |
| Krypton | –251 | |
| Oxygen | –369 | |
| Helium | –458 | |
| Argon | –309 |

Solution
We have, `C = 5/9 (F - 32)`
For Hydrogen, put F = (–435)
⇒ `C = 5/9 (- 435 - 32)`
= `5/9 xx (-467)`
= –259.44
⇒ C = –259.44
For Krypton, put F = (–251)
⇒ `C = 5/9 (-251 - 32)`
= `5/9 xx (-283)`
= –157.22
⇒ C = –157.22
For Oxygen, put F = (–369)
⇒ `C = 5/9 (-369 - 32)`
= `5/9 xx (-401)`
⇒ C = –222.7
⇒ C = –223
For Helium, put F = (–458)
⇒ `C = 5/9 (-458 - 32)`
= `5/9 xx (-490)`
= –272.22
⇒ C = –272.22
For Argon, put F = (–309)
⇒ `C = 5/9 (-309 - 32)`
= `5/9 xx (-341)`
= –189.44
⇒ C = –189.44

A multistorey building has 25 floors above the ground level each of height 5 m. It also has 3 floors in the basement each of height 5 m. A lift in building moves at a rate of 1 m/s. If a man starts from 50 m above the ground, how long will it take him to reach at 2nd floor of basement?
If Δ is an operation such that for integers a and b we have a Δ b = a × b – 2 × a × b + b × b (–a) × b + b × b then find (–7) Δ (–1). Also show that (–7) Δ (–1) ≠ (–1) Δ (–7).
