Question
The equation 4NH3 + 5O2 → 4NO + 6 H2O, represents the catalytic oxidation of ammonia. If 100 cm3 of ammonia is used calculate the volume of oxygen required to oxidize the ammonia completely

Solution
4NH3 + 5O2 -> 4NO + 6H2O
4 moles of ammonia = 100 cm3
1 mole of ammonia = 25 cm3
4 moles of ammonia requires 5 moles of O2
So, volume of oxygen required = 5 x 25 = 125cm3
