Solution
Crime can be prevented through the treatment of criminals and by addressing the root causes of criminal behaviour. While legal punishments such as imprisonment, fines, and capital punishment are commonly used, the reformation of criminals is seen as the most effective method.
The main aim of reformation is to make society crime-free by improving the conditions of criminals and helping them realize their hidden positive qualities. Reformation encourages rehabilitation and reintegration, rather than mere punishment.
In India, the two main methods used for treating criminals respectfully are:
-
Imprisonment – to restrict freedom as a form of punishment.
-
Probation – to allow supervised freedom for reform and reintegration into society.
Thus, the prevention and control of crime require not just punishment, but also reformative and corrective approaches that treat criminals with dignity and help them become responsible citizens.
