Solution
(i) The resistance 10 Ω and 50 Ω are connected in series, so their equivalent resistance is:
Rs = 10 + 50 = 60 Ω
Now Rs and 30 Ω are connected in parallel, so their equivalent resistance is:
`1/("R"_"total") = 1/60 + 1/30`
`1/("R"_"total") = 3/60`
`60 xx 1 = 3 xx "R"_"total"`
`60 = 3 xx "R"_"total"`
`60/3 = "R"_"total"`
Rtotal = 20 Ω
Hence, total resistance of the circuit is 20 Ω.
(ii) Given, V = 6 V
Current flowing through the ammeter,
I = `"V"/"R"`
Or, I = `6/20` or `3/10` = 0.3 A
Thus, the current flowing through the ammeter is 0.3 A.
