Solution

Equivalent weight of H+ = 1 g (since valency = 1)

Given, mass = 8 g

Therefore, number of equivalents = `8/1` = 8 equivalents

We know that,

Charge required to reduce 1 equivalent of any ion = 1 Faraday = 96,500 C   ...[Faraday’s law]

∴ For 8 equivalents, Q = 8 × 96500 = 772000 C

∴ The charge required to reduce 8 g of H+ ions to H2 gas is 772000 C.
