Solution

The Tyndall effect is the scattering of light by colloidal particles present in a colloidal solution. When a beam of light passes through a colloidal solution, the colloidal particles, whose size is comparable to the wavelength of visible light, scatter the light, causing the light’s path to become visible as a bluish illuminated cone called the Tyndall cone. This scattering causes the colloidal particles to appear as bright spots under a microscope when viewed at right angles to the light beam. The Tyndall effect is a key property of colloids and helps distinguish colloidal solutions from true solutions, which do not exhibit this effect due to their much smaller particle size. It also demonstrates the heterogeneous nature of colloidal systems.
