Questions
Define the relation between velocity, wavelength, and frequency of the wave.
State the relation between velocity, frequency, and wavelength.

Solution
A wave covers a distance equal to the wavelength (λ) during one period (T).
Therefore, the magnitude of the velocity (v) is given by,
Magnitude of velocity = `"Distance covered"/"Corresponding time"`
v = `lambda/"T"` i.e., v = `lambda xx (1/"T")` ....(1)
But the reciprocal of the period is equal to the frequency (n) of the waves.
∴ `1/"T"` = n ....(2)
From equations (1) and (2), we get
v = nλ
i.e., wave velocity = frequency × wavelength
∴ v = f × λ
