Solution

Given: Mass of H2SO4 = 4.9 g

Volume of solution = 1 L

Molar mass of H2SO4 = 98 g/mol

H2SO4 is a diprotic acid (provides 2 H+ ions).

Molarity (M) = `"Given mass (g)"/("Molar mass" xx "Volume (L)")`

M = `4.9/(98 xx 1)`

M = `4.9/98`

M = 0.05 mol/L

Normality (N) = Molarity × Basicity (no. of H+ ions)

N = 0.05 × 2

Normality (N) = 0.1 N
