A tower 30 m high has its shadow `30sqrt(3)` m at any time. Find the sun’s altitude.

Solution

Given: Tower height = 30 m, Shadow = `30sqrt(3)` m

Use `tan α = "Height"/"Shadow"`. 

`tan α = 30/(30sqrt(3))`

= `1/sqrt(3)`

`α = arctan  1/sqrt(3)` 

= 30°

The sun’s altitude is 30°.
