Solution

A solid sphere of diameter 6 cm is melted and drawn into a wire of radius 4 mm. The length of wire is 225 cm.

Explanation:

Volume of sphere = `(4/3)π(3  cm)^3`

= 36 πcm3

Wire cross-sectional area = π(0.4 cm)2

= 0.16 πcm2

Equating volumes: 0.16π × L = 36π

⇒ `L = 36/0.16`

= 225 cm
