Solution
We have,
A hall is 10 m long 5 m wide and 4 m high. It has one door 2 m by 1 m and 2 window 1 m by 80 cm.
Now we know that,
The area of four walls is 2(l + b) × h, where l is the length, b is the width and h is the height of the room
Then area of four walls is 210 + 5 × 4
= 120 m2
Now area of one door is 2 × 1 = 2 m2
And the area of two windows is `2(1 xx 80/100)` = 1.6 m2
Combined area of one door and two windows is 2 + 1.6 = 3.6 m2
Then, the area of the 4 walls (excluding the door and windows)
= Total area of four walls – Combined area of one door and two windows
= 120 – 3.6
= 116.4 m2
Therefore, the cost of distempering the walls is ₹ 50 × 116.4 = ₹ 5820
