प्रश्न
Two unlike forces (parallel) of 10 N and 25 N act at a distance of 12 cm. from each other. Find the point about which the body balance.

उत्तर

Let the balance be at x cm from the 25 N force.
Anti-clockwise moment = 10 (12 − x)
Clockwise moment = 25 x
Applying the principle of moments,
⇒ 10 (12 − x) = 25 x
⇒ 120 − 10 x = 25 x
⇒ 35 x = 120
⇒ x = `120/35`
= 3.43 cm.
∴ The body balances at the 3.43 cm mark.

Fig. 5 shows a uniform meter scale weighing 200 gf. Provided at its centre. Two weights 300 gf and 500 gf are suspended from the ruler as shown in the diagram. Calculate the resultant torque of the ruler and hence calculate the distance from mid-point where a 100 gf should be suspended to balance the meter scale.

State one factor on which the magnitude of a non-contact force depends. How does the magnitude of a non-contact force change along with distance?
Calculate the minimum distance between point of application of force and axis of rotation of a rigid body, if a force 125 N produces a moment of force of 25.75 Nm.
