उत्तर

  1. Ba metal will form ions readily because the ionisation energy decreases down the group as the size increases.
  2. On moving down the group, the number of electrons in the outermost shell, i.e. valence electrons, remains the same. So, the valency in the group remains the same.

Why is the size of neon greater than fluorine?

Size of atom progressively becomes smaller when we move from sodium (Na) to chlorine (CI) in the third period of the periodic table?

Give reasons for the following:

The size of the anion is greater than the size of the parent atom.

Arrange the following in order of increasing radii:

CI- , CI

Among the elements of the second period, Li to Ne, pick out the element with the largest atomic size

The electronic configuration of metal A is 2, 8, 18, 1.

The metal A when exposed to air and moisture forms B a green layered compound. A with con. H2 SO4 forms C and D along with water. D is a gaseous compound. Find A, B, C, and D.

Which of the following gives the correct increasing order of the atomic radii of O, F, and N?

Atomic number of a few elements are given below
10, 20, 7, 14

  1. Identify the elements
  2. Identify the Group number of these elements in the Periodic Table
  3. Identify the Periods of these elements in the Periodic Table
  4. What would be the electronic configuration for each of these elements?
  5. Determine the valency of these elements

  1. Electropositive nature of the element(s) increases down the group and decreases across the period
  2. Electronegativity of the element decreases down the group and increases across the period
  3. Atomic size increases down the group and decreases across a period (left to right)
  4. Metallic character increases down the group and decreases across a period.

On the basis of the above trends of the Periodic Table, answer the following about the elements with atomic numbers 3 to 9.

  1. Name the most electropositive element among them
  2. Name the most electronegative element
  3. Name the element with smallest atomic size
  4. Name the element which is a metalloid
  5. Name the element which shows maximum valency.

Arrange the following in order of increasing radii:

Cl−, Cl
