It is made by polymerizing the monomer caprolactum, which is derived from the petrochemical cyclohexane. The procedure is followed as follows.

Nylon-6 filaments are created by melt-spinning the polymer. A stream of air cools the fibers as molten polymer is pushed through a spinneret.
