Children use trees for their games. They make tree houses and play “hide and seek’ behind the trees. Trees play an important role also while adults are spending some time at leisure. Last four years have been eventful. The day I brought Duke home… (Marcy was almost impolite to him because she would have preferred a Pomeranian to a Doberman)… to a stage on October 12, 1957 (when she would not allow anyone else to carry the injured Duke to the vet)… much water has flowed under the bridge. From being a very fit high-charging zone sales manager, I was reduced to a paralysed cripple forced to lie on a bed alone with my thoughts due to a small error by a car driver. Despair had led me on to helplessness… Was I to be a vegetable for the rest of my life ? I never wanted to be a burden on Marcy.
Duke’s re-entry into my life lifted my numb spirits. The day he made me take my first step, there was a rekindled hope. Duke assumed all the responsibility for leading me back to my office desk… Life had taken a full circle. From shock to denial and helplessness to anger, Duke taught me to cope with the challenge and led me to accept the changed mode of life. I am happy to be living as well as working successfully.
The order that I have received today is my tribute to Duke who would always be alive with me and be a part of everything else I achieve in my life.
When a person loses something, he is shocked and gets into a state of denial leading to anger. In such a situation coping well leads to acceptance and a changed way of living in view of the loss. Sixteen year old Shreya, a student of XI, angrily outbursts at her parents and says, "No one likes me".
She has not been able to develop an interest in any activity, be it painting, swimming, games or studying. She is not sure what types of relationships give her comfort.
She has never had a good friend. She is not clear about her choice of career.
Shreya is good-looking, as well as physically healthy. During the interview, she was preoccupied with what others think about her.
When asked to talk about her positive qualities, she thought for a long time but could not list any. Nor was she able to mention her negative aspects.

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you succeed.
Knowing our helps us in acknowledging our success as well as appreciating our capacity to do something with or without support from others.
This givee us a sense of well being and we are able to learn new skills and develop assets , thereby developing our confidence. Confident people attract friends and other stable relationships.

Knowing our weaknesses helps us In accepting our limitations, and developing a willingness to take help when offered and enabling us to overcome our deficits.
This paves way to expansion of skills and qualities, which prove useful ln the long run. It is worthwhile to Introspect and reflect so as to realise our potential . This help to bring about a change in us and we are able to meet challenges .
lf Shreya had introspected or had been helped by her parents or teachers to reflect on herself, she would have understood her positive and negative qualities , her likes , dislike , strengths , weakness , feelings , emotions , outlooks , choices , values and attitude towards life.
