उत्तर

When ethyl halides are boiled with aqueous sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, hydrolysis takes place with the formation of ethyl alcohol.

Condition: Alkyl halide is boiled with aqueous alkali.

\[\ce{C2H5Cl + NaOH -> \underset{Ethyl alcohol}{C2H5OH} + NaCl}\]

\[\ce{C2H5Br + KOH -> KBr + \underset{Ethyl alcohol}{C2H5OH}}\]

(a) C4H8O
(b) C3H6O
(c) C5H10O
(d) C6H12O

An organic compound having the molecular formula C3H6O can exist in the form of two isomers A and B having different functional groups. The isomer A is a liquid which is used as a solvent for nail polish. The isomer B is also a liquid. II. Wings of insects and wings of birds are homologous organs in animals.

III. Wings of insects and wings of bats are analogous organs in animals.

IV. Thorns of citrus and tendrils of cucurbita are analogous organs in plants.

The correct conclusions are:

(A) I, and II

(B) II and IV

(C) I and III

(D) III and IV

Assertion (A): In a homologous series of alcohols, the formula for the second member is C2H5OH and the third member is C3H7OH.
Reason (R): The difference between the molecular masses of the two consecutive members of a homologous series is 144.
