उत्तर

  • Concave mirror: Concave mirrors can form an enlarged image of an object. Therefore, dentists use them to see the enlarged image of the patient’s teeth.
  • Convex mirror: A convex mirror forms a diminished and upright image of an object. It is used as a side view mirror of the car because it enables the driver to view objects spread over a large area behind him/her.

A 4 cm tall object is placed on the principal axis of a convex lens. The distance of the object from the optical centre of the lens is 12 cm and its sharp image is formed at a distance of 24 cm from it on a screen on the other side of the lens. If the object is now moved a little away from the lens, in which way (towards the lens or away from the lens) will he have to move the screen to get a sharp image of the object on it again? How will the magnification of the image be affected?

A diverging lens is used in:
(a) a magnifying glass
(b) a car to see objects on rear side
(c) spectacles for the correction of short sight
(d) a simple camera

In each case (a) and (b), draw reflected rays for the given incident rays and mark focus by the symbol F.

Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image by a concave mirror for an object placed between its pole and focus. State three characteristics of the image.

State the kind of mirror used

(a) By a dentist,

(b) As a search-light reflector.

Upto what maximum distance from the pole the image in a convex mirror can be obtained? what will be the location of object then ?

An object 5 cm high forms a virtual image of 1.25 cm high, when placed in front of a convex mirror at a distance of 24 cm. Calculate:

  1. the position of the image
  2. the focal length of the convex mirror.

Define the term principal focus in case of convex mirror. Draw a convex mirror and show its principal focus and focal length clearly.

An object is brought towards a concave mirror. How does the position and size of the image change?

Complete the following diagrams shown in the following figures by drawing the reflected rays.
