very good student - gets a few marks less - very upset, average student won't be so upset; sincere worker - boss angry - this causes pain, the bad worker won't bother; animal in distress - animal lover - feels pain, one not fond of animals won't be upset; etc. Providing help - tell students to find out the cause of fewer marks, improve; etc.
