The corresponding elements of two equal matrices are equal.

\[2x - y = 6 . . . \left( 1 \right)\]
\[y = - 2\]
Putting the value of y in eq . (1)
\[2x - \left( - 2 \right) = 6\]
\[ \Rightarrow 2x + 2 = 6\]
