उत्तर

Given AB = 5 units

Therefore, (AB)2 = 25 units

`⇒(5-a)^2 +{3-(-1)}^2 = 25`

`⇒(5-a)^2+(3+1)^2 = 25`

`⇒(5-a)^2 + (4)^2 =25`

`⇒(5-a)^2 +16 =25`

`⇒(5-a)^2 =25-16`

`⇒(5-a)^2 = 9`

`⇒(5-a)=+-sqrt(9)`

`⇒ 5-a=+-3`

`⇒5-a =3 or 5-a=-3`

`⇒ a=2 or 8`

Therefore, a = 2 or 8.

Solution: Suppose Q(x1, y1) and point R(x2, y2)

x1 = 3, y1 = – 7 and x2 = 3, y2 = 3

Using distance formula,

d(Q, R) = `sqrt(square)`

∴ d(Q, R) = `sqrt(square - 100)`
