उत्तर
A solvent is the component of a solution that is present in the greater amount and is responsible for dissolving the solute. It forms the medium in which the solute particles are dispersed uniformly. The solvent determines the physical state of the solution (solid, liquid, or gas) and is usually a liquid in most common solutions.
For example, in a sugar-water solution, water is the solvent, and sugar is the solute.
