- A solution is a homogeneous mixture formed when one or more substances (solutes) are uniformly dispersed in another substance (solvent).
- The particles in a solution are present at the molecular or ionic level, making the mixture uniform throughout.
- Solutions can exist in all three physical states. Solid, liquid, or gas, depending on the solvent.
- For example, saltwater is a liquid solution where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. Solutions are characterised by having a single phase and do not separate on standing.
