उत्तर

  1. Sheet erosion is the relatively uniform removal of a thin layer of soil from the land surface by rainfall and surface runoff. It occurs where raindrop impact and overland flow detach and transport soil particles across broad, gentle slopes without forming distinct channels.
  2. Because it often removes only millimeters to centimetres of topsoil per event, sheet erosion is difficult to see until soil fertility and crop yields decline. Over time it reduces organic matter, seedbed quality and water-holding capacity, increasing susceptibility to rill and gully erosion.
  3. Preventive measures include maintaining vegetation cover, conservation tillage, contour farming, terracing, mulching, and buffer strips to reduce runoff velocity, increase infiltration, and stabilize the soil.
