Subject: Concern over and suggestions for protection, with regards to the World Heritage Site at Ajanta caves

Respected Madam,

I, Master Sumit 'Rajbhar, 'am a class X student of Ideai' High School, Pune. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit the famous Ajanta Caves 'which are considered to be a part of World Heritage.

I am greatly disturbed over the state in which the site is maintained. The caves are in ruins and the place is unclean. The lack of security personnel risks the destruction of the historically relevant architecture at the hands of vandals, I also had a few queries as follows:

  1. Could we have policy in place to maintain this site?
  2. Could, security be increased to prevent encroachments by animals and human beings?
  3. Could a fee be charged for entry so that the funds may be used for the upkeep of the site?
  4. Can the locals be involved· in protecting the site?
  5. Could waste disposal measures be used to ensure cleaner premises?

I also have a few suggestions that we could use to preserve this heritage site:

  1. We could have a CCTV camera in place to monitor troublemakers.
  2. Placards and sign boards could be placed in strategic places to warn as well as guide visitors.
  3. Sufficient and well-maintained sanitary facilities could be provided to ensure the cleanliness of the place.

I kindly request you to keep us updated about the happenings at the site. My friends and I would be keen to do our part in protecting this very precious Heritage site.

Yours sincerely,
Master Sumit Rajbhar

It was lovely to get your letter and to hear the good news that you are going trekking with your friends. You (ought to/ would/ should) have a break after your exams! You ask me what you (can/ should. will) take. Well, you (might/ can't/ mustn't) fit everything in a backpack so you must be selective. You (will/ can/ must) take at least one sweater because it (ought to/ should/ can) get very cold in the mountains. You (needn't/ could/ should) pack a gas stove
because there (could/ may/ will) be plenty of firewood from dead trees.

Once you're there you (won't be able to/ can't be able to/ not to able to) get down and it's very dangerous at night. By the way, you (should/ should have to/ should have) told me earlier that you were going and I (should have/ would have/ will have) given you my walking boots!
