The name and molecular formula of a carbon compound having its name suffixed with "-ol" and having two carbon atoms in its molecule is ethanol and CH3CH2OH, respectively.
When ethanol is heated with excess of conc. H2SO4, it leads to dehydration of it giving ethene.

\[\ce{\underset{\text{ethanol}}{CH3CH2OH} ->[conc H2SO4] \underset{\text{ethene}}{CH2 = CH2}+H2O}\]
