प्रश्न
What do you understand by the statement, "Electromagnetic waves transport momentum"?

उत्तर
If we consider a plane perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the electromagnetic wave then electric charges present on the plane will be set and sustained in motion by the electric and magnetic fields of the electromagnetic wave. The charges present on the surface thus acquire energy and momentum from the waves. This just illustrates the fact that an electromagnetic wave (like other waves) transfers energy and momentum.

What role dose infra-red radiation play in physical therapy?
The terminology of different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum is given in the text. Use the formula E = hv (for energy of a quantum of radiation: photon) and obtain the photon energy in units of eV for different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. In what way are the different scales of photon energies that you obtain related to the sources of electromagnetic radiation?

When 40 kV is applied across an X-ray tube, X-ray is obtained with a maximum frequency of 9.7 × 1018 Hz. Calculate the value of Planck constant from these data.
