Let AB be a vertical rod and BC be its shadow.

From the figure, ∠ACB = θ.

In ΔABC,


`tan θ = "AB"/"BC"`

⇒ `tan θ = 1/sqrt(3)`   ...`[∵ "AB"/"BC" = 1/sqrt(3) ("given")]`

⇒ tan θ = tan 30°

⇒ θ = 30°

Here the angle of elevation of the sun is 30°.
