उत्तर
The peddler stood up in defence of himself when the ironmaster accused him of not being entirely honest and said he had never attempted to pass himself off as the ironmaster's friend. He wasn't at fault, therefore. He had continuously maintained his status as a meagre trader and appealed for permission to remain in the forge. His presence, though, had not caused any harm. He was prepared to don his rags once more and leave as a result.
