उत्तर

Let f(x) = 2x3 + x2 − 8x − 4

Let 2x + 1 = 0

x = `-1/2`

`f(-1/2) = 2(-1/2)^3 + (-1/2)^2 - 8(-1/2) − 4`

= `2(-1/8) + (1/4) + 4 - 4`

= `-2/8 + 1/4`

= `-1/4 + 1/4`

= 0

2x + 1 is a factor of f(x).

               x2 − 4
`2x + 1")"overline(2x^3 + x^2 − 8x − 4)`
             2x3 + x2
           −      −
                           − 8x − 4
                           − 8x − 4
                           +      +
                                  x

2x3 + x2 − 8x − 4 = (2x + 1) (x2 − 4)

= (2x + 1) (x − 2) (x + 2)
