प्रश्न
What is the backlash error?
Advertisements
उत्तर
Due to constant use, there is space for the play of screw gauge but gradually this space increases with the use or wear and tear so that when the screw is moved by rotating it in some direction, it slips in the nut and does not cover any linear distance for some rotation of the screw head. The error due to this is known as backlash error.

- pitch
- L.C. of vernier callipers.
Figure shows the position of vernier scale while measuring the external length of a wooden cylinder.
- What is the length recorded by the main scale?

- Which reading of vernier scale coincides with the main scale?
- Calculate the length.
State the correction if the negative error is 7 divisions when the least count is 0.01 cm.
A micrometre screw gauge has a negative zero error of 7 divisions. While measuring the diameter of a wire the reading on the main scale is 2 divisions and 79th circular scale division coincides with baseline.
If the number of divisions on the main scale is 10 to a centimetre and circular scale has 100 divisions, calculate
- pitch
- observed diameter
- least count
- corrected diameter.
