The factors responsible for non-development of industries in Central Australia are follows:
1. Physical factor:
- Central Australia is majorly occupied by desert. Great Victoria desert, Great Sandy desert, Gibson desert, etc. are the major desert regions here.
- Extensive areas are covered by longitudinal dunes.
- The Gibson desert consists of large part of laterite capped plain, but huge areas of the plains of central and northern Australia are occupied by active sand dunes and large areas of southern and western Australia are covered by field of fixed dunes.
2. Climate:
- Central Australia is very dry.
- The average rainfall is below 250 mm per year. The rainfall is rarely evenly spread throughout the year. Often the annual average falls in a month and has been known to fall a single day.
3. Population distribution:
Less than 3 percent of population of Australia live in the desert region. Thus, there are no favourable physical, climatic conditions as well as manual factors in Central Australia for industrial development.
