  1. The multicellular flask-shaped female sex organ found in many gymnosperms, bryophytes, and pteridophytes is called the archegonium.
  2. The female gamete, egg, or oosphere is located at its dialated base, known as the venter.
  3. The male gametes are able to swim towards the oosphere because the cells in the narrow neck of the archegonium liquefy.
