  Physical region Political region
(i) A physical region is an area of land divided by natural borders. Political regions tend to be based on political units such as sovereign states, administrative regions, provinces, states, townships, etc.
(ii) For example, the interior plains of the USA are bordered by the Appalachian Mountains in the east and the Rocky Mountains in the west. For example, the USA, the State of Maharashtra, etc.
(iii) Physical regions are natural regions.  Political regions are man-made regions.
(iv) Physical regions are almost unchanged regions. Political regions are not permanent regions.

1. A region demarcated purely on the basis of distinct physical features is known as a physical region. A region demarcated purely on the basis of human factors is known as a political region.
2. Physical regions are demarcated on the basis of various physical features like elevation, landform, climate, soil, forest cover, rainfall, etc. Political regions are demarcated on the basis of various human (economic, social, cultural, etc.) like per capita income, literacy rate, language spoken, occupations carried out, etc.
3. Demarcation and delineation of boundaries of physical regions is comparatively uncomplicated/simple. Demarcation and delineation of boundaries of political regions is comparatively complicated/complex.
