Squire Cass is a contender for the narrator's Least Favorite Character. Sure, Dunstan is bad—but look at who he's got for a dad. He's bad-tempered, neglectful, slovenly, and arrogant. The only possible good thing about him is that he has the "self-possession and authoritativeness" that some of his neighbors lack. He enjoys throwing his annual New Year's Eve party not because he likes company but because he likes showing off and performing his "hereditary duty of being noisily jovial and patronizing". You have to feel a little sorry for Squire Cass, though, because his reign of triumph is coming to an end. The only reason he thinks highly of himself is that his society is so confined that he's just never been around anyone superior. He may be at the top of Raveloe society, but, as England becomes unified as a nation, isolated pockets like Raveloe will no longer exist. It'll be impossible for a country squire to go on thinking that he's better than everyone else, because railroads and newspapers and other forms of mass communication and mass culture will introduce him, however unwilling, to a larger world. Added to that, the Napoleonic Wars are almost over. Silas Marner is set sometime in the early 1800s, before the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 puts an end to the wars that England had been fighting on-and-off in Europe since 1793. The war, since it kept foreign grain out of England, raised prices for agricultural products, meaning that farmers like Squire Cass (and the villagers) could make a good living. When the wars ended, prices fell, and even restrictive import laws didn't help for long. By the middle of the 19th century (when Silas Marner was written), England was a manufacturing nation. Wealth lay in the cities, not in the lands.

Caesar, the Hero of Mumbai on 26/11
- Mumbai: Caesar, the last surviving hero of his kind, died of a heart attack on Thursday. Caesar, a Labrador Retriever, was covered with tri-color and given an emotional farewell from the city Police Force. The Mumbai Police Commissioner too marked the passing of the hero with a tweet.
- Caesar, who was 11 years old was the sole survivor among the dogs of Mumbai Police who took part in bomb detection operations during the terrorist attack on Mumbai that began on November 26, 2008. He died of a heart attack at a farm in Virar where he and his three canine buddies had been sent after retirement. During the terror attack in Mumbai, Caesar saved several lives when he sniffed out the hand grenades left by the terrorists at the busy CST railway station.
- Caesar was also a part of the search team at Nariman House, where terrorists were holed up for three days. Earlier he was also pressed into service for bomb search operation after the 2006 serial train blasts and July 2017 blast in Mumbai. The Mumbai police officials also tweeted their grief saying, “Services of retired members of Dog Squad during 26/11 will be unforgettable. We will remember our heroes forever.”

Plants not only provide shade but also help in regulating the micro-climate. They help regulate energy budgets, improve air quality, and curtail noise pollution. Trees, herbs, shrubs, and grasses arrest sedimentation and prevent other pollutants from entering our water systems. This will give a chance for our urban lakes and rivers to recover and help improve aquatic ecosystems. Biodiversity also gets a boost through the urban forestsand helps create corridors connecting the forest areas. High biodiversity areas can also help to build resilient ecosystems. Availability of forests within our urban areas gives an opportunity for children to connect to the natural environment and learn about native species.
