उत्तर
Sophie's dreams are in sharp contrast with her real world. She belongs to a lower middle class socio-economic background. She lives in a small house with her parents and two brothers, Derek and Geoff. Irrespective of her socio-economic standing, Sophie is a highly ambitious girl. She willingly leads herself into believing things that might not be true or simply made up in her mind. Like any other young girl, Sophie fantasises about the world she wants to acquire. At the same time, she is sincerely attached with the real world. She does not come across as one to accept regrets in life. She wants to make her own mistakes and learn from them. When Danny Casey does not come, we find her waiting and measuring the changes taking place in her. She was acutely aware of these changes and of the hard burden that sadness was. She was aware of the outcome but she decided to take the plunge because it did not matter to her if she won or lost. She was concerned with the ability to make the choice and in some way determine the course of her life.
