This migration was believed to weaken Assamese cultural dominance, leading to demands for identifying and expelling all “foreigners.”

Economic Concerns: Although Assam is rich in natural resources like tea, oil, and coal, the local population felt economically neglected, as these resources were exploited without improving their living conditions. The movement demanded better economic opportunities for indigenous Assamese people.
