Define plate tectonics.
The lithosphere is divided into a number of huge slabs of rocks called ‘Tectonic Plates’. These tectonic plates are divided into major and micro plates. These plates float independently over the mantle.
The term tectonic plates is defined as massive, irregularly shaped slabs of solid rock, generally composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere. These plates make up the earth’s crust and are constantly moving because they rest on the molten magma beneath them.
Define weathering.
Weathering is the process of the disintegration or decomposition of rocks at or near the Earth’s surface due to the action of natural agents like water, temperature changes, wind, and biological activity. It leads to the breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces or changes their chemical composition, without any removal of the material from the site.
