Write a composition (in approximately 400-450 words) on the following subject.

You depended on technology to complete an important task. However, it failed you at a crucial moment. Narrate what happened, your attempts to fix it and the lessons you learnt from this experience.

Technology is both useful and harmful. We can’t live without it, but it also gets us into a lot of trouble. I’m a victim of the bad things about technology. It lied to me when I really needed its help.

I remember how excited I was to show my project. I did everything I could to make it a big success. I wanted to tell my parents about my success and wow my teachers and friends. I had done a lot of study on the subject and gathered useful information. I put all the facts and ideas I could think of on a bunch of slides. It was a competition between schools, and I wanted to win the best project title and make my school happy.

When it was my turn, I felt like I had butterflies. To calm down, I told myself that my carefully planned talk would go off without a hitch. I could see the respect on their faces and could already hear all the nice things they would say.

We took a deep breath together, and I walked up to the stage to start my speech. After making a fancy turn, I turned on my show. The light flickered, but that was it! The screen showed nothing. Sweat built up inside the collar and ran down my neck in streams. I painted a feeling of sadness. Some looked confused, while others smiled in a mocking way. The judges looked antsy. I said something incoherently about the trial, bowed to the crowd, and left the stage. I had never been so ashamed. It was all for nothing that they stayed up late to look over the data and spend hours putting together the slides. “You’re a failure,” my mind told me.

It sounded like someone was calling me as I turned to get my bag and go home. ‘Arjith, Arjith’. Not paying attention. Even from my best friend, I didn’t want them to feel sorry for me. Although I was still walking, someone grabbed me and shook me awake. “Arjith, your plan is becoming real. The computer expert only pressed a button, and now it’s coming out of the screen. That sounded crazy to me. The crazy machine is finally working after giving me the creeps! It looked at me like it was making fun of me when I ran to the hall. When everyone saw me again, they started cheering. It was okay with the judges, so I got another chance.

I learned a few things from the event. Never be sure about technology for sure. Things can go wrong at the last minute. Don’t give up. You might get another chance. Technology can fool you for good or bad, so don’t put your faith in it.
