You can also make your own hand fan. Take ideas from the pictures given below and in groups of four, make your own hand fan. Display the hand fans in the class and describe the process used to make it.

Materials required:

• Coloured paper
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Glue
• Two ice-cream sticks or thin wooden sticks
• Thread or ribbon

Process:

1. Take a rectangular sheet of coloured paper and draw a semicircular or fan-shaped design on it.
2. Decorate the paper with coloured borders and simple patterns.
3. Fold the paper carefully in equal pleats like an accordion.
4. Bring the folded paper together at the bottom and tie it firmly with thread.
5. Apply glue and attach the two sticks to the bottom of the folded paper.
6. Allow the glue to dry properly.
7. Open the folded paper to form the hand fan.
8. Decorate the finished fan with additional colours, paper designs or ribbons.
