उत्तर

  1. The Ullmann reaction is a coupling reaction of aryl halides.
  2. It uses copper (Cu) or copper salts as a catalyst or reagent.
  3. In this reaction, two molecules of aryl halides react under heating in the presence of copper.
  4. The reaction results in the formation of biaryl compounds, where two aromatic rings are joined by a carbon-carbon bond.
  5. Ullmann reaction mainly produces symmetrical biaryl compounds.
  6. The reaction proceeds via the formation of copper-aryl intermediates that facilitate the coupling.
  7. It is widely used in organic synthesis to prepare biphenyl derivatives and related aromatic compounds.
  8. The reaction usually requires high temperature and sometimes addition of ligands to improve yield and selectivity.
  9. When an iodoarene is heated with copper powder in a sealed tube, a diaryl is obtained. This reaction is known as Ullmann reaction.
